With people trapped inside during quarantine and the coronavirus pandemic, many have turned to new hobbies, such as painting, exercising, or DIY projects. But for two of the game’s best players, they turned to a different challenge which involved using vintage persimmon clubs and balls.
Rickie Fowler & Justin Thomas hit the Medalist Golf Club in South Florida on Sunday for a throwback game with vintage persimmon clubs and balls in the bag. Thomas even rocked the old-school tie-and-cardigan combo, similar to what he wore during the 2017 Open Championship at Royal Birkdale.
Striking persimmon clubs on the screws is one of the more pleasant sounds in life. As Thomas noted in the caption, “The audio on some of the shots today were niiiiiice.”
Thomas is already begging for another try and says, “Safe to say, I’ll ask Rick for a partner the next time we do this.” Imagine how excited the home crowd at Whistling Straits would be if they saw Thomas and Fowler coming out of the tunnel to the first tee in the old-school Ryder Cup uniforms and grab a persimmon driver out of the bag.
