Greenskeeper’s death at Queens golf course ruled a homicide

The death of an elderly greenskeeper who was pushed to the ground at a Queens golf course last month has been ruled a homicide, authorities said Friday — two days after the alleged attacker was arrested.

William Hinchey, 79, was killed the afternoon of Sept. 8, a short time after he spotted a group of teens riding bicycles around the 15th hole of the Forest Park Golf Course in Woodhaven, trying to steal the flag, cops said.

Hinchey tried to tell the teens to leave, but an argument broke out and eventually became physical, ending with one of the teens pushing the man down, police said.

Hinchey was hospitalized in North Shore University Medical Center in Long Island, where he died on Sept. 11.

His alleged attacker, David Mangaran, 19, was arrested more than a month later, on Wednesday afternoon, according to police.

Mangaran was hit with a felony assault charge.

The Queens District Attorney’s Office will handle any upgraded charges, police said.
