Learning From The Mistakes of Others… David Feherty’s Son Passes Away

This serves as a simple PSA – if you or someone you know has a substance abuse problem we urge you to seek help.

Earlier this week our favorite golf commentator on the PGA Tour, David Feherty, lost his son to a drug overdose.  Feherty himself is a recovering alcoholic who has openly discussed his own struggles.  Her shared via Twitter, “My first born son is gone from me, dying from an overdose on his 29th birthday. Bless his sweet heart, I will fight on.”

The reason for us taking a moment to discuss this is because unfortunately many tie together substance abuse and golf.  It’s not uncommon for golfers to consume alcohol while enjoying a round but we urge you to choose alternative means of transportation afterwards if you find yourself unable legally to drive home.

I lost both my brothers, sister and my nephew to drug and alcohol abuse. I feel your pain and sorry. I miss them with all my heart and soul. There was nothing I could do no matter how hard that I tried. I wish that they had not taken their path of substance abuse. David Feherty I will say a pray for your son, May GOD keep him in the palm of His hand with loving peace.

I will echo Davids remarks, my loss was two nephews and my Godson all under the age of 25. I too will pray for your son, I continue the fight to save so many who are fighting the good fight. Look for my foundation soon.

OMG, David. I am so very sad for you. My son is celebrating his 29th birthday today, and he too has a recovering alcoholic for a father. I pray every day that he never follow in that part of my footsteps. I will pray for your peace and “serenity”, although I know it is only small consolation.

David, So sorry to hear of your loss. May the Good Lord help you get thru this ordeal. My son is in rehab now for alcohol abuse. He’s been on every drug imaginable, up to Heroin and alcohol. Hopefully, this time he will make a full recovery as he actually WANTS to be in rehab for a full 120 days, getting time off to work and then back to the facility. God Bless you and your family at this most tragic time of your life.

My only son has been sober 6 years now but prior to this we were in constant fear of losing him and were close several times…he found his way on his own after 5 rehabs onlywhen he was ready He is an alcoholic for life but he found other joys and rewards without alcohol. You and your son will be in my prayers?
May you find peace through the passage of time for this unbearable loss of a child.
