Augusta National “strongly encouraged” Phil Mickelson “not to come” to the Masters
Augusta National officials reportedly told Phil Mickelson to not come and play in The Masters this April, according to multiple sources.
Not only was Phil Mickelson reportedly told not to come to The Masters by officials at Augusta National, there are also whispers he has been suspended from the PGA Tour.
As reported by Golfweek’s Craig Dolch, it could be that Mickelson was strongly encouraged to not participate at The Masters in April due to the frenzy it could cause.
It is the first time that the six-time major champion will not walk the fairways in Georgia in 28 years, as his legacy on the PGA Tour hangs by a thread.
There are also sources that suggest that the tour have completely suspended him over his actions in previous months, such as his collusion with the Saudi golf league, now the LIV Golf Invitational Series.
In an interview with Alan Shpinuck, Mickelson admitted to alleged atrocities that happen in Saudi Arabia and described them as “scary mother******s.” His justification was to gain leverage over the PGA Tour to make improvements.
In his statement when he announced his break from the circuit, Mickelson apologised to those he negatively affected with his comments, but he still described those involved with the LIV Golf Invitational Series as “visionaries.”
But prior to this, Lefty had accused the tour of “obnoxious greed” for supposedly concealing the media rights and archival footage of players, footage that is worth millions.
The 51-year-old’s comments on the tour’s finances come at a stage where he had earned a total of $95 million on the tour and potentially over $700 million in endorsement deals.
There have been a number of transgressions that could’ve led to Mickelson’s potential suspension, but the PGA Tour tend not to publicly announce suspensions.
This is another chapter of a sad stage of Mickelson’s career. He has won three Green Jackets among his 45 tour wins. He is responsible for iconic moments which could now be tarnished.

He should have just kept his mouth shut instead of playing the big mucho man
Politics & cancel culture has infected the Masters too! So sad.
Another typical over reaction to free speech by a group of people and the PGA, who actually think golf is way more important than it is. I wouldn’t be surprised if this comment was not posted because I don’t fall in line with their cabal of importance.
Yeah he is a real hero
Free speech only protects you from the Government punishing you. If you speak out against your employer, you can expect consequences and the First Amendment provides no protection. Phil was really arrogant and stupid.
Phil just tells like it is…No BS from him
The Masters won’t be the same without Tiger and Lefty. Won’t be watching this year.
You can say what you may about Phil, but I’ve lost faith in the PGA and how they’ve handled this situation.
Not the point. The golf industry in general acts like it’s way more than an entertainment industry. They ct like what they do is in any way relatable to the every day person and if you veer from that, you are somehow intolerable. From the commissioner to the announcers.. Like when Gary Mccord got banned from the Masters because of an innocuous comment on the speed of the greens.. and CBS followed their lead like the good little boys they are.. It’s almost to the point of embarrassing to see how far people in golf will bend to accommodate these conditions, when in fact the players are more like Don Johnson in Tin Cup.. At least Phil had the nuts to say what he thought.. If more players were like him, the game would at least be interesting rather than something to bet on, which is the only reason to watch any more.
So now we are censoring and excluding a past Master’s champion because he said something you don’t like? Probably because he spoke the truth? Why wasn’t this same treatment enforced on another past champion who was arrested, drunk, and drugged up, crashed 2 cars caused a scandal, was never treated in this way? I’m pretty sure of the reason and everyone else does too. I always respected and enjoyed the Masters, but to ostracize a Master’s champion because he has an opinion that you don’t like, come on? What next? take away his green jackets? Erase his name from the tournament books? The Master’s used to be a class act, now you have turned it into a favorite’s act. We want the best golfers but only if you do as I say and not as you say. Monohan is a two faced, revenge seeking individual, he doesn’t like Phil so he trashes him and threatens him with suspension, got the Masters to force him out, but other pros who have really done damage to the PGA are not even admonished. Maybe Phil should get a mug shot and crash a car so that he can be a role model and spokesman for the PGA, right.
Phil Mickelson, Ted Bishop, Donald Trump. Phil Mickelson, Ted Bishop, Donald Trump. Each is a victim of of a governing body that
has it’s own agenda, no long responsible to it’s base. Each man is imperfect, but undeserving of the treatment they have received. A sad commentary on the citizenry, the membership, and the players and sponsors that allow or encourage such a state of affairs.
all correct, but they are such snowflakes, they would rather point out that JT is wearing joggers than say that it’s unfair to ban a player for the afore mentioned reasons.. And for the record and those that did not know, Gary McCord was banned by CBS or anyone else broadcasting on the Masters, because he said that the greens were so fast, they must have been bikini waxed.. They actually banned him for saying that and CBS just said thank you sir, may I have another.. Such cowards..
Lastly on this topic, It was just posted by Golf Digest that Koepka that when a fan asked for an autograph that he said ” I don’t go to where you work and ask for your shit do I,? No, I don’t”. First, The tour won’t do anything about this because he’s the latest obnoxious draw on tour that they try to market. But secondly, the idiot that wrote the quote said it was from David Sims in Tin Cup to Shooter McGavin in Happy Gilmore.. That said, it just shows the bias and phoniness of the tour and its subsidiaries in general.
True it won’t be the same without Tiger and Lefty but that is no reason not to watch the Masters we have a young generation coming up that are exciting to watch and can play
