Brandel Chamblee fires back after Norman calls him “paid talking bobblehead”

Brandel Chamblee’s war of words with LIV Golf’s Greg Norman shows no signs of abating after the Norman claimed he was “a paid talking bobblehead”.

If you didn’t know, former PGA Tour pro Chamblee is the Golf Channel’s lead analyst and has been critical of the Saudi-funded series over the last few years.

Norman, of course, is the chief executive of LIV Golf Investments and apart from “brainwashed” Rory McIlroy he is another one of the Australian’s frequent targets.

To bring you into the picture a bit more, Chamblee has called for Phil Mickelson to be removed from the World Golf Hall of Fame, claimed the LIV signees “make me wanna puke” and suggested the first day of the series’ inaugural event at Centurion Club was “one of the saddest days in professional golf”.

“Watching these players come together for money and show to the world…they are showing us that they are the greediest, most self serving, self interesting, wilfully blind players in the world of golf today,” he previously said.

Last week, Norman told The Palm Beach Post:

“I find it laughable. Has Brandel Chamblee ever been to Saudi Arabia? Has he ever built a golf course in a third world country? He’s a paid talking bobblehead. That’s all he is.”

“He’s got my phone number. He’s never picked up a phone and asked me a question. Sadly, you’re making yourself look like a jerk. It’s like water off a duck’s back to me.”

Now Chamblee has shared this screenshot of a text message exchange he has apparently previously had with Norman:

Greg Norman on Brandel Chamblee:

“Keep being you and call it the way you see. Refreshing,” Norman apparently sent Chamblee.

Chamblee’s text above the screenshot said: “Greg Norman *to* Brandel Chamblee before I knew he was being paid by the murderous Saudi regime to sportswash. Funny how when I ‘call it like I see it’ about LIV, it’s not so refreshing to Greg.”

The back-and-forth between Chamblee and Norman comes in a frantic week in the golf world after Henrik Stenson was stripped of the Ryder Cup captaincy after becoming the latest LIV Golf signee.

it is ironic that it is Saud oil money, but somebody was gonna kick PGATOUR out of its easy reliance on Tiger woods cash flow. good golfers around the world can compete with homegrown USA golfers, and PGA Championships in Argentina Uruguay mid east, should have been started years ago. more tournaments, more popularity, more money to charity.

The LIV Tour is made up of has beens, malcontents and petulant children. Good luck to them all. It’s destined to become the WWE of professional golf

Why is the PGA above being challenged? Not many people care that it’s “bad Saudi Money”…..it’s all the same when it’s in your bank account. The PGA tour has never been challenged and is/has been living off Tiger mania and all that history/legacy. History has shown time and time again that Money is a formidable adversary and the PGA Tour is scrambling. I actually like Ernie Els idea that LIV golf should be in the Fall and PGA in winter/spring. I think the PGA and LIV should come to an agreement but they are entrenched and massive gos are involved in both sides now.

Norman tried soemthing similar to this in the 90’s. He failed then and he’ll fail again.

Not even close. He didn’t have deep pockets of the Saudis and didn’t have any players. As long as the Saudis keep pouring money into this and he can get some sponsors, this has potential.

Kudos to Brandel. If a drug cartel decided to sponsor a league and the money was sufficient to trash your reputation, these would have no reservations to jump the PGA ship. Character counts more than money. The greed displayed by these players will also hurt the game. Aside from that, I thought that they lived very affluent lives (thanks to the PGA tour). Perhaps being a one percent(er) just isn’t enough for some.

Let’s see how freely Brandel talks know with the big lawsuit coming at him. Bet he spends less time free wheeling it now.
