Two days removed from winning his singles match over Sergio Garcia, Bryson DeChambeau will tee it up in a completely new event this afternoon in Nevada.
Flying from Wisconsin to Mesquite, DeChambeau is poised to become the first active PGA Tour player to compete in the 2021 Professional Long Drivers Association’s World Championship, which begins today.
The Open Division event kicks off on Tuesday morning and continues through Wednesday with the contestants who move on from Day 1.
The contestants are split into five groups of 16 golfers and are given 2:30 to hit six balls into the grid.
The top-12 from each group will advance to the final 64. There will also be four wildcards earned from those who finished in 13th place in their respective groups.
Headlining the third group, DeChambeau will tee off around 3 p.m. EST on Tuesday.
The event will not be broadcast on cable. Instead, it will be streamed live on the PLDA YouTube page.
“First and foremost, (I’m doing it) to grow the game. That’s something that’s really important to me,” DeChambeau said in an interview with Golf.com.
“I really want to help bring more people into this great game and help them have fun playing it. This is just an amazing opportunity to showcase golf’s athleticism, and all the great things that are happening on that side of the sport that might not have a spotlight on them right now.”
