Bryson DeChambeau confronts fan who chirped ‘great job Brooksie’ after BMW Championship

He had just lost a highly emotional and mentally taxing six-hole playoff, one that offered him multiple chances to win, and Bryson DeChambeau just wanted to exit the golf course.

As he made his way up the hill to the clubhouse, with Patrick Cantlay basking in the glow of victory back down on the 18th green, an overzealous fan went too far, according to a report by ESPN’s Kevin Van Valkenburg.

This fan decided to wait for DeChambeau to pass by and then offered up the now unoriginal and over-played “Great job, Brooksie” jab.

For DeChambeau, it was the last straw. He whirled around, according to the report, and started walking towards the offender.

“You know what? Get the f— out!” DeChambeau yelled. Van Valkenburg then wrote that DeChambeau “had rage in his eyes.”

Despite TV announcers over the weekend trying to downplay the amount of chirping DeChambeau had to deal with for four days, Van Valkenburg writes that he heard it “dozens of times.” He also says fans openly cheered when DeChambeau hit a drive into a creek.

The PGA Tour declined comment when asked about the incident by ESPN.

It always seems that we have to degrade a good player that just gave it his all providing a great tournament why don’t people just remember he is out there trying to make a living, he doesn’t come into your work place and critize you or say derogatory things. Give him a break 4 days of constant pressure. Could you so called fans take it?

Bruce, I don’t condone bad behavior by fans, but Bryson makes a lot of money snd if the worst thing that ever happens to him is someone yelling ZBrooksie… he is very fortunate. By the way, there are us fans out there that do a lot more than just play a game for a living… I’m a retired police officer and you can’t imagine some of the things I’ve bern through or others in similar professions… and we don’t make millions. I wish someone yelling Brooksie was the worst thing that had ever happened to me. Bryson started the so called feud and at first said it didn’t bother him…. My feelings are Bryson needs to grow up a little and realize just how fortunate his life is.

So the writer says the DeChambeau/Koepka feud is unoriginal and overplayed, but a month ago, the entire media was gushing about how good it was for the game, and how refreshing it was to see some personality on tour. Whichever way the wind blows, eh?? Trump is right…the media is the enemy of the people. Absolute scumbags!

Only fascist believe the media is the enemy. I guess the founding fathers made a mistake including it in the FIRST Amendment.

The fan is a jerk. While Bryson missed several winning putts, Cantlay made some of the clutches putts I have ever seen on multiple holes in regulation as well as in sudden death. Take nothing away from DeChambeau who played great golf, sometimes the chips just fall elsewhere. Great playoff

@ Scott Hanselman – In what part of the article did the writer say the DeChambeau/Koepka feud was unoriginal and over-played? I think you need to read the article again! It says calling Bryson “Brooksie” is unoriginal and over-played. And the writer is correct when saying that.

What a fab playoff. Too bad A holes are allowed beers. They should be given a shout down and the door. I for one, apologize for the Kirk. On the other hand, when hecklers rise higher. Be prepared with a funny one liner when you know shits coming.

Sad to hear about the Booksie taunts. I was there on Friday and followed Bryson as best as I could; the fans were cheering his every move. It was gratifying to see. Too bad he didn’t jack that spectator in the face. The civil court fine would have been worth it.

DeChambeau created this situation with Koepka. When Koepka was on air he should have just left well enough alone and walked away. – he didn’t – he had to make a comment that was not well received. DeChambeau lost the tournament – the old saying goes “Drive for show putt for dough” He played exceptionally well but lost. There is only one winner and he wasn’t the winner. Live by my favorite saying “He who feel cocky end up with dick in hand” Brooks you lost ‘ suck it up and go on.

I also am a retired police officer after 28 years and have been called worst but fans should respect players or maybe the beer should be stopped at events , I have never degraded a player for what he does and my honest opinion this has been sparked by the golf broadcasters and now they are trying to build conflict between Chantly and DeChambeau I say leave it die we don’t need it

First place 1.7m , runner up 1m. Folks please get real. This is a game that has huge rewards. These guys have to get over the small s—t. 13 brave young people got killed in Afghanistan just for doing their job for what you spent on your private jet fuel in a year.
