Bryson DeChambeau denies media rumors about quitting PGA Tour

Bryson DeChambeau isn’t in the field this week at the Genesis Invitational at Riviera Country Club, and with ongoing rumblings of a Saudi Arabia-funded breakaway tour approaching players, rumors began swirling on social media that DeChambeau reportedly said he wouldn’t play in any more PGA Tour events.

When contacted by GOLF.com, DeChambeau’s agent, Brett Falkoff, unequivocally refuted the rumor: “It’s absolutely false. It’s baseless speculation and completely untrue. The only reason he’s not playing this week is because he’s injured,” Falkoff told GOLF.com.

Later, the 2020 U.S. Open champion shared a statement on his social media accounts reiterating the message. (See his message below)

DeChambeau missed the cut in his most recent PGA Tour event, the Farmers Insurance Open, and withdrew from the Saudi International earlier this month prior to his second round, citing an injury to his left wrist and hip. The eight-time PGA Tour winner is due to defend his title at Bay Hill starting on March 3, but DeChambeau has reportedly been nursing a tear in his labrum, which can carry with it a recovery time of four to six weeks, putting that start in doubt.

DeChambeau is one of several players who have been reportedly linked with the Saudi-backed Super League. DeChambeau called reports earlier this month of $130 million to join the tour “false,” and his agent also refuted that message on Monday.

“It’s more false reporting, and totally inaccurate,” Falkoff said.

DeChambeau has reportedly been offered a multimillion dollar deal said to be worth $135million to be the poster boy of the new concept.

He denies this, and commented “wrong” on an Instagram post last week asking for readers’ opinions about the alleged offer.

Last week at the WM Phoenix Open, Charley Hoffman ripped into the PGA Tour, claiming there was “no accountability for the players”.

DeChambeau’s Instagram account posted “agree wholeheartedly” in the comments. “I feel ya”, was the response from Mickelson.

Norman has always maintained that a separate golf league is for “the good of the game”.

Critics suggest the money is being used by Saudi Arabia to sportswash its human rights abuses.

DeChambeau is an eight-time winner on the PGA Tour. He won his maiden major, the U.S Open, in 2020 at Winged Foot.
