Collin Morikawa reacts to PIP snub as Pat Perez says the program is “horse****”
Pat Perez has described the PGA Tour’s player impact program as “horse****” and a “complete joke”.
In a podcast with GolfDigest, Perez described how even if he were to win four times in a season he still wouldn’t be in the running.
Perez went further and joked that he would have to resort to bearing all to “get enough views” to be in the running for that any prize money.
If you weren’t aware, the player impact program, known as PIP, is essentially a cash prize for the Tour’s most influential players.
Long story short, Phil Mickelson has claimed he has won the prize of $8million for 2021, beating Tiger Woods who took second.
The PGA Tour has refused to confirm who placed where and what money they received based on the metrics of their influence.
The PIP was essentially designed to try and thwart attempts from rival golf leagues stealing their star players.
Perez, 45, spoke of how Woods “damn near killed himself” and posted one swing video which attracted more than 10 million views.
“If that doesn’t win then I don’t know what does,” Perez said, later adding: “I think the PIP is an absolute joke.”
He continued:
“I would have to streak naked during the ceremony to even get enough views to be in the running for that kind of deal.
“So, it’s really not fair. It’s not like everyone can win, I promise you.
“I could win four times in a year and still not be in that conversation, so, uh, I don’t really understand anyway, but good for Phil.”
Perez also appeared to be confused by the PGA Tour’s secrecy over the program.
“If the Tour is going to mention it, then why not put out the top 10.
“Explain it to the people, explain what the hell it is.”
Collin Morikawa was reportedly the unlucky man who finished 11th by the Tour’s metrics and missed out on any extra cash.
Morikawa had a stellar year and probably doesn’t want for any extra sums.

This year, the player impact program will see an increased prize pool.
The winner is set to receive a booster $10 million on top of an even richer FedEx Cup prize pool.
