In a strange turn of events, DP World Tour player Stephen Gallacher had lost his tour card for six months due to an administrative error.
The DP World Tour has given Gallacher an “unreserved apology” after mistakenly revoking his tour status after last season. Last season, Gallacher finished 173rd on the Race to Dubai, which would typically result in the player losing their card. However, the 48-year-old’s standing on the Career Money List should have qualified him on the DP World Tour for the 2023 season.
Gallacher released a statement on the situation yesterday.
“I am really delighted at today’s news, and I am very pleased how the DP World Tour has handled the matter once they realized that the mistake had been made.”
The DP World Tour has now given Gallacher an exemption for 2024 to make up for the mistake.
“I am as competitive now as I have always been, and from Qualifying School, to last minute DP World Tour invitations, through to Challenge Tour events, my ambition and desire to get back playing and winning has never wavered.”
“I am still hugely motivated, and I can now plan my schedule for the rest of this campaign to try to secure my card back based purely on my results on the course.” Gallacher said.
