Game Golf’s Pros vs. Joes

If you haven’t heard of GAME GOLF, listen up!
It’s a small, light weight device you wear on your belt as well as individual sensor tags that attach to the top of the grip on each club. They record every shot played during a round of golf using GPS and motion sensing technology. By simply tapping the GAME GOLF sensor tag to the device worn on the waist, the GAME GOLF device automatically records the course, location on the hole, club used and club distance. After the round, the golfer simply uploads the data via computer to GAMEGOLF.com for post-round analysis, which can also be viewed via mobile app or web browser.

It’s basically a non-intrusive way to record stats about your round and analyze your game. Even PGA Tour golfers Jim Furyk, Lee Westwood and Graeme McDowell have used the device and have shared their round information online. The folks over at Game Golf thought it would be interesting to stack up some of their rounds with the average golfer, according to their statistics. Even though the pros are pros and are far and away better than us, it turns out we’re not as bad as you might think.

The following is a front 9 posting from Lee Westwood, a back 9 score from Jim Furyk and an entire round of averaged stats from amateurs using Game Golf:

Westwood (Front 9):
· Score: 31 (-4)
· Fairways: 57%
· Greens in Regulation: 89%
· Scrambling: 100%
· Putts Per Hole: 1.56
· Longest Drive: 326 (hole 9)

Furyk (Back 9):
· Score: 33 (-2)
· Fairways: 71%
· Greens in Regulation: 78%
· Scrambling: 50%
· Putter Per Hole: 1.56
· Longest Drive: 282 (hole 14)

Amateur Data:
· Average Score: 84 (14 strokes over par)
· Fairway Accuracy: 31%
· Greens in Regulation: 31.3%
· Putts per Hole: 1.83
· Scrambling: 16%
· Farthest Drive: 328 yards on the 4th hole

The moral of the story is, yes, the pros are much better than us – but we’re getting better. Hitting about 1/3 of our fairways and greens (on average) isn’t too shabby! Obviously the short game needs some work, but overall, well done amateurs! Grab a GAME GOLF now and see if you can help us pad our stats. Maybe one day we can take down the pros … ok, that will never happen, but we can definitely have fun tracking our game!
