PGA Tour pro Grayson Murray was reportedly “escorted to his car by security” after getting into a heated debate at the Barracuda Championship.
The news was first reported by The Firepit Collective’s Ryan French, who took to social media to explain what happened.
According to French’s sources, Murray hit into the group in front of him in the second round on the 18th hole.
The group he reportedly hit into comprised of Spain’s Santiago Tarrio and the American pairing of J.J. Henry and Scott Brown.
You might recall that Tarrio was the player who famously hit an incredible backwards flop shot at the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship earlier this season on the DP World Tour.
Murray, who missed the cut at Tahoe Mt. Club in Truckee, California, was playing with Stephen Jaeger and Chase Hanna.
According to French, Murray narrowly missed Tarrio when he fired his shot towards the green and the pair then proceeded to argue in the scoring hut.
It reportedly got so heated that it ended with Murray being escorted out.
A few weeks ago Murray, who is usually outspoken on social media, deleted his Twitter account.
Tweeted French: “According to sources, Grayson Murray was escorted to his car by security today at the Cuda. After hitting into the group in front of him, narrowly missing Santiago Tarrio, they met in scoring and yelled at each other. It ended with Grayson being escorted out
“Since Grayson has been outspoken about the the lack of mental health help on Tour, when players now log into the players only app the first thing listed is mental health resources. I hope Grayson gets the help it seems like he needs.”
Murray, 28, has long been a controversial figure on the PGA Tour.
He has lashed out at the PGA Tour over his lack of help for alcoholism. He once withdrew from the 3M Open after one round and then opened up on his battle.
“The PGA Tour didn’t force me to drink,” Murray previously said.
“The PGA Tour never gave me help. In my five years of experience of being on tour not once have I ever had a request been acknowledged by the commissioner or the PAC [Player Advisory Council] other than ‘we will get back to you.’
“I hope not only the PGA Tour steps up in the areas they need to step up but I also hope people are held accountable in their roles they serve.”
This year, Murray has famously was involved in a war of words that reportedly almost became physical with Kevin Na.
When Na joined LIV Golf earlier this year, Murray posted that he “wouldn’t be missed”.
The pair reportedly got into heated debate on the range at the Mexico Open.
“I was hitting balls on the range, and just kind of had my head down walking to the chipping green. Sure enough, I hear someone yelling and cussing at me,” said Murray about the confrontation in Mexico.
“I won’t repeat every word he said, but basically there was a lot of profanity involved, and calling me a not-so-nice word about how I should have said it to his face in person. He didn’t like that I didn’t tag him on the post, which I’m pretty sure I did.
“I’m pretty sure Chantel [McCabe] had already tagged him, so if I respond he’s already tagged in the post, so I think it works. I’m not afraid to go at him, I’ll tag him.
“I guarantee every one of them could hear what he said, and the caddies. I went right up to his face and held my ground, and I told him, if I wasn’t going to get suspended right now I’d drop his a** right there on the range.
“Because what he said was very immature and I know he wouldn’t have said it to me if we were just seeing each other outside of the golf course.
“It was a very immature thing to say four months later, and to do it on the range, which he knows is his safe spot, he knows that I’m not going to do anything to him, he’s just provoking me.”
In response, Na claimed this was not an accurate representation of what happened but declined to go into further details.
Murray qualified for the U.S. Open at The Country Club at Brookline through final qualifying.
After making the cut, he then turned heads when he was filmed launching his putter into the long grass in anger, before later snapping one of his clubs.
