Rahm tests positive for Covid-19 a second time in seven weeks to miss the Olympics, and Poulter says it “just doesn’t make sense”.
Ian Poulter took to Instagram last night to reveal his confusion over Jon Rahm testing positive for Covid-19 a second time in less than two months.
Rahm was forced to withdraw from the Memorial Tournament last month when holding a six-shot lead after 54 holes, and now the World No.1 must also bypass the Olympic Men’s Golf Tournament this week due to another positive test over the weekend.
Poulter, who has been enjoying a mini resurgence of late with a number of impressive finishes on Tour including a tie for third at the Charles Schwab Challenge in late May and a tie for fourth at the Scottish Open three weeks ago, was left baffled by the latest news on Rahm.
“Something just doesn’t make sense here,” Poulter captioned a post on his Instagram Story, which has since been deleted.
“Jon Rahm had COVID less than 3 months ago. Now tests positive again.
“This brings some questioning into play. What is going on with this testing?”

Rahm took to social media to discuss his disappointment at being forced out of the Olympics.
“I’ve been fortunate to represent my country and win a championship for Spain around the world as an amateur,” said Rahm.
“Playing in Tokyo would have given me a chance to win an Olympic gold medal for my country.
“I would have loved to have been the first Spanish Olympic gold medalist in golf, but unfortunately destiny had other plans.
“This is a great reminder for all of us that we’re still in a pandemic, things are not over, and we still need to fight together to get through this the best we can.
“I wish all the great athletes representing Spain the best of luck as they compete in Tokyo, I will be watching and cheering them on from home. God Bless.”
Bryson DeChambeau also tested positive for Covid-19 for the first time, and he too has been forced to withdraw from the Olympics.
The American’s place in the field now goes to Patrick Reed, while Rahm is replaced by compatriot Jorge Campillo.

No comments anywhere that either one has been vaccinated….and if that is the case then Rahm’s comments….”we still need to fight together to get through this”…..is worth nought if he / they are anti-vaxxers! One would have thought that with his elderly parents arriving from Spain and a new baby in arms, that the first thing he would do after the Memorial would be to get a jab!
It’s really none of your business if he does or doesnt
The vaccine is unproven. How many years have we tested other vaccines before we took them to market? Years. Tested on animals, etc., before man got a hold of them. But, magically, this one works? and what about if you had Covid, your immune system would kick in? I believe you believe in all the media hype and think you will die if you don’t take the shot. 0.016% of people who get covid died. That’s the same number as the average age of an American male life expectancy. Plus, weird how this year the flu never showed up. I guess when you put all the deaths under one umbrella, the numbers are sure to go up. And, before you get all bitchy, I did have both shots. Only to not wear that stupid mask. But don’t worry, living in California, I’m sure the governor of this state will still mandate putting them on again at some point. Keep believing and keep drinking the koolaid they are serving you. It worked so well we have a President in office who doesn’t belong there. Some magic trick.
Rahm indicated elsewhere that he was vaccinated. Why he would test positive is puzzling.
Don’t know if I really trust the tests. I believe that they should have one or more in the next 2 days or so. Had a friend whose Mom tested positive and 7 days later was clean and that happened 3 times and when she finally died about a year later they claimed it was Covid-19. She was in her 70’s and never had symptoms.
Rahm had said he did get the vaccine after the tournament at Torrey Pines. That was weeks ago. Something is surely amiss!
I don’t understand why they didn’t approach Mr. Rahm and tell him he needed to finish the tournament he was leading by 6 shots by wearing a mask for his final round.
