Jon Rahm slams Official World Golf Rankings and says he’s ‘the best player in the world’

The winner of last week’s Sentry Tournament of Champions, Jon Rahm, believes he’s the best golfer in the world. Given his consistent play, it would be difficult to argue otherwise.

A Twitter user, “Flushing It”, made a compelling point after Rahm’s victory Sunday.

Rahm also called the OWGR system “laughable” back in November.

“I’m going to be as blunt as I can,” Rahm told a press conference in Dubai. “I think the OWGR right now is laughable.

“The fact that the RSM doesn’t have any of the top 25 in the world and has more points than this event where we have seven of the top 25 is laughable.

“The fact that Wentworth (BMW PGA Championship) had less points than Napa (Fortinet Championship) despite having players in the top 10 in the world is laughable.”

Despite Rahm’s win at the weekend at the Tournament of Champions, the Spaniard remains fifth in the Official World Golf Rankings, the same spot he was in prior to last week’s event.

The Spaniard gave credit to McIlroy and Scheffler having great seasons, but following his latest victory emphasized that he’s been the best player since August.

“Since the playoffs… I’ve won three times and I don’t even get close to him. So I’m trying to understand what’s going on,” Rahm said.

“Had they not changed the world ranking points [system] I would have been pretty damn close [to world No 1] right now. But in my mind, I feel like since August I’ve been the best player in the world.”

“Earlier in the year clearly Scottie (Scheffler) was that player, then Rory (McIlroy) was that player, and I feel like right now it’s been me. Anybody, any given year can get a hot three, four months and get to that spot.”

As of now, Rahm is still behind Rory McIlroy, Scottie Scheffler, Cameron Smith and Patrick Cantlay in the Official World Golf Rankings.

Have to agree w/Rham. We should all face the factys the PGA is screwed up from the World Rankings top how they handled LIV Golf. If it wasn’t for LIV no one way would the PGA players be playing for the large purses their playing for today and even for players missing the cut their receiving checks for 5K. Thank U LIV Golf.
