Pebble Beach is one of the most scenic spots in the country, but it’s also a place where the weather can get WILD. In a hurry.
We’ve seen golfers and celebrities struggling with layers of raingear through the years of the AT&T Pro-Am as flagsticks whip in the Pacific wind. And one PGA Tour star got prepared for such a scenario by attempting—and pulling off—quite a creative shot during Wednesday’s practice round.
As golf fans know, the famed par-3 7th is listed as just over 100 yards on the scorecard, but because it juts out into Stillwater Cove, it can play like a beast. So with the breeze picking up, Spieth went up in club choice. Way up. Check out this slicing 4-iron he hit that found the tiny putting surface:

That’s pretty impressive. And it’s also another sign that Spieth is rounding back into the form that made him World No. 1 and a three-time major champ by his 24th birthday. A Saturday 61 in Phoenix had Golf Twitter buzzing and now he returns to a place where he won by four shots four years ago.
He sure looks ready to contend at lovely Carmel-by-the-Sea—especially if this not-so-lovely weekend forecast comes to fruition:
