Justin Rose hits brutal “world class shank” during Valero Texas Open on PGA Tour
England’s Justin Rose hit one of the worst shots of his PGA Tour career during the first round of the Valero Texas Open.
Rose, 44, was moving along serenely in the first round at TPC San Antonio after going out in a 3-under 33 having started on the 10th.
But things quickly unravelled for the former US Open champion after he shanked his approach shot on the 483-yard par-4 4th.
Rose split the fairway with his tee shot but then hit what PGA Tour LIVE commentator Robert Damron described as a “world-class shank”.
The PGA Tour social media team posted a video of Rose’s shank on Instagram and then captioned it: “when today’s stock market is your final swing thought.”
For those none the wiser, the stock markets plunged into chaos across the United States, Asia and Europe as a result of Donald Trump’s tariffs on major trade partners.
Rose went on to make a double-bogey six en route to coming home in 3-over 36 to finish his rollercoaster round at level-par 72.
The 11-time PGA Tour winner has endured something of a rollercoaster season to date, too.
Rose, who has intentions of making a sixth European Ryder Cup team this September, has picked up two top-10 finishes so far this season on the PGA Tour with a T3 at Pebble Beach and T8 at Bay Hill.
But he has also missed the cut in his other three appearances in 2025.
