Lee Westwood ripped by fellow pro after latest LIV performance – ‘I’ll tell you what’s a joke…’
Eddie Pepperell went off on Twitter after LIV Golfer Lee Westwood replied to the updated OWGR with a laughing emoji.
The world ranking issue has been the subject of fierce debate ever since the Saudi-backed rival league launched last June.
LIV players have tumbled down the OWGR and missed out on majors.
It was argued by traditionalists that LIV players were simply facing the consequences of their own actions.
Just one of the many reasons why their fees for joining LIV were so astronomically high was because there were so many unknowns.
For now, though, would it be unreasonable to suggest that the world rankings are a little bit messed up?
Bryson DeChambeau staked his Ryder Cup claim with an historic 12-under 58 at The Greenbrier.
Politics aside: Is he really the World No. 113?
This is the point that it appears Westwood was trying to demonstrate when he saw the updated OWGR after last weekend’s events in men’s professional golf.
He posted a crying eyes laughing emoji after seeing the updated OWGR.

Westwood was clearly indicating he disagreed with the current rankings due to the fact that LIV players do not receive any OWGR points for their tournaments.
Pepperell replied to the tweet, saying “I’ll tell you what’s a joke Lee; you earning 3X the average annual UK salary in one week for shooting +20 over 3 rounds.”

When someone accused Eddie of being jealous (or just sarcastic) of Lee, Pepperell replied by saying that “Professional golf used to be about playing well to earn money.”
Professional golf used to be about playing well to earn money. (Still is for the most part to be fair) It’s not jealousy to point out how LIV is rewarding (in some instances) poor performance in a big way monetarily. Not something I can get on board with personally.

Westwood replied with a dagger of his own, alluding to the backseat the DP World Tour has taken to the PGA Tour.
We used to play in the peak of summer too on the ET tour Ed. Take that one up with whoever will listen 👍🏻

But don’t worry… that Strategic Alliance will kick in soon! 🤞🏼

PIP? Miss that one did you? Monday simulator games? Miss that one too?
— Lee Westwood (@WestwoodLee) August 14, 2023
Westwood then pondered whether the PIP or a simulator golf league met Pepperell’s criteria of “Playing well to earn money”.
It’s all laughable. From you earning £100k last week for playing like a turnip to the TGL/PIP.
Pro golf has degraded itself to being just about the money. Maybe it always has been and I’m just naive, but it isn’t doing much to improve the sport and genuinely ‘grow the game’.

You’re excellent at twisting Ed I’ll give you that 👍🏻👌🏼
— Lee Westwood (@WestwoodLee) August 14, 2023
Not from the top I’m not!
But pretty sure professional golf would be in a better spot if a few of you stuck instead of twisted.
But money and all that… sure is alluring whatever the implications for the sport.
You go Glen Coco.
