Arccos Golf has revealed the latest data when it comes to ‘average’ driving distances for male golfers, and quite frankly nobody can quite believe it!

So you have recently purchased a TaylorMade Stealth Driver or Callaway Rogue ST Max Driver and have been seeing some huge distance gains over recent months. Out the back of the range, yeah?

Sounds good, we believe you.

But you might be quite surprised to learn what the ‘average’ yardage really is for driving distance based on your handicap.

For those male golfers with a handicap over 20 the average driving distance is 205.2 yards, while those with a handicap better than scratch stands at 239.6 yards.

Let’s just say the latest figures released by Arccos Golf (and then shared on Instagram by Golf Digest) have raised plenty of eyebrows with amateur golfers, and ruffled a few feathers in the process too.

But the important thing to remember with the below data here is that these numbers are an average.

You might very well belt a drive 280 yards on one hole, but then you could send a duck hook into the pond on the next.

That would of course considerably bring the average down.

“I definitely hit it further than 220 yards off the tee and I’m off 14,” vented one mid-handicap player on social media.

“If you hit it 240 off the tee and are +2 then you most certainly have a great short game,” disagreed one player.
