Official World Golf Ranking update: LIV Golf players make big moves

Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR) update: Check out the latest top 100 players after LIV Golf were given the green light from the sport’s global rankings body.

Several LIV Golf League players have made moves up the Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR) after the Saudi Arabia-backed tour were given points for the first time.

The OWGR board confirmed on 3 January that LIV finally got the answer they were hoping for but the decision was not without controversy.

Only the top 10 finishers at LIV Golf events are awarded points – which is a departure from all 24 other men’s golf tours that are part of the OWGR.

Jon Rahm and LIV commissioner Scott O’Neil were among those to express their frustration, with the former Masters champion declaring the decision “doesn’t seem fair”.

Still, Australia’s Elvis Smylie has made a big move inside the top 100 following his victory at LIV’s curtain-raiser in Riyadh.

The 23-year-old was ranked No. 134 but has moved up to 77th. It means that there is every chance the youngster could play his way into the four men’s majors if he keeps it up.

The top 50 in the OWGR the week prior to the 2026 Masters (March 30) will earn a spot into the field at Augusta National.

The top 60 in the OWGR as of May 18th will get into the U.S. Open and the top 50 as of May 25 will get into The Open Championship.

Although the OWGR isn’t an official exemption into the PGA Championship, the top 100 players typically receive an invite.

Elsewhere, the aforementioned Rahm moved up 30 places, whilst Peter Uihlein, Abraham Ancer, Thomas Pieters and David Puig also moved up.

Over on the PGA Tour, America’s Chris Gotterup moved to a career-high fifth after he defeated Hideki Matsuyama in a play-off at the WM Phoenix Open.

Gotterup leapfrogged Russell Henley in the rankings. Scotland’s Robert MacIntyre and Xander Schauffele also dropped down.

Patrick Reed’s victory at the Qatar Masters also moved him inside the top 20 for the first time since the 2021 Tour Championship.

Reed quit LIV Golf in January and has been in fine form on the DP World Tour, winning two events from three starts.

He has virtually locked up his PGA Tour card.

Tyrrell Hatton (25th) is currently the highest-ranked LIV Golf player.

Four-time major champion Scottie Scheffler remains the best player in the world, with Rory McIlroy in second.

England’s Justin Rose is now ranked third, following his recent victory at the Farmers Insurance Open.

We have listed the top 100 players in the OWGR below.
