Phil Mickelson should be removed from the Hall of Fame, says Brandel Chamblee

Phil Mickelson has “dishonoured” the game and threatens to destroy it, says controversial Golf Channel analyst Brandel Chamblee.

Brandel Chamblee took to social media this week demanding that Phil Mickelson and Greg Norman be removed from the Hall of Fame because of their involvement with LIV Golf.

The controversial Golf Channel analyst said that Norman and Lefty should be booted out because they have “dishonoured” the game and threaten to destroy it.

Mickelson is playing the US Open this week at Brookline, his first major since returning to the golf world following a four-month break from the game amid the fallout of his “criticized” remarks.

Lefty faced a barrage of questions from the media on Monday afternoon where he explained that he understands some of his fans may disagree with his decision to continue with the Saudi-financed LIV Golf.

Mickelson is reportedly being paid $200million to play in the eight-event series and has also committed to playing all 10 LIV Golf events next season when the schedule expands.

He told the media of his decision: “I know that many of you have strong, well, many people have strong opinions, emotions about my choice to go forward with LIV Golf.

“I understand, and I respect that. I’m incredibly grateful for the PGA Tour and the many opportunities it has provided me through the years, but I am excited about this new opportunity as well.”

Many PGA Tour and LIV Golf players have expressed their strong opinions about what the future of golf may look like in the coming years. Rory McIlroy says the game is currently “fractured”.

Bryson DeChambeau said that he “will have a new legacy” as he claimed that his decision to sign with LIV Golf for a reported $100million after a long-assumed interest was “a business decision”.

Chamblee took to social media to post this:

PGA Tour pro Dylan Wu then replied:

Chamblee fired back:

Elsewhere in the golf world, it is being reported that the DP World Tour face a big decision over whether to embrace LIV Golf rebels onto their circuit or strengthen their ties with the PGA Tour.

I guess Phil does not have enough money. Got to feed his family

Lefty is in the downward side of his career. He’s still a ‘name’ although he’s probably done winning for the most part. This LIV might just be his swan song. I’m wondering, if you still were able to play, if you wouldn’t have bolted to a league that promises you 4-5 times what you are making today. If the PGA isn’t strong enough to weather this storm, then maybe the PGA isn’t as great as you thought it was. Just having a few names and , so far, no TV contract doesn’t guarantee success for the Saudis. Yea, they have a boat load (make that a cruise ship) of money to hand out. But people come to see the product. Lefty is the product. He’s not gonna bring down the PGA by himself. Funny how the PGA is all against the Saudis’ for their human rights violations but turn a blind eye when they keep trying to bring China into the fold.

Nothing more than a “never was” seeking relevance by an idiotic comment. He try’s to be Johnny Miller , but he has no credentials to call out anyone as he never won anything .

chamblee never could play look at his record. He is just a bitter old a**hole always looking to put someone down-(this week Mickleson) couple a weeks ago (Brooks), He can’t write, announce or even put 2 sentences together unless he is putting someone down. Old saying: “put others down, to make yourself look better”??

exactly.. and why is it that all u need to do is play 15 tournaments and you can bolt to the DP /European tournament without a problem. I guess I just don’t understand why , if players meet their commitment to play in a certain number of tournaments, that anyone should care what they do in their own time; or where they work.. Can anyone answer that? And if you say it’s because the Saudi’s are so bad, what about the support for China and the other places that support human rights violations? Nike etc, use slave labor to sell their products..

Putting aside the whole “Saudi Money” issue……players like the condensed schedule. People question that Phil has a lifetime membership on PGA tour; he can play as much or as little as he wants? True but in order to be competitive for Tour championship, post season leaderboard etc, Phil would have to play like 23-26 times like all the other players who are chasing the post season. Why not join a league where EVERYONE plays the 8-14 events , are under huge contracts, and play for big cash? Done deal…….
I think it’s fair to complain about Saudi blood money but don’t blame the players for wanting the better schedule and huge payouts…..

How many times did Brandel Chamblee win on the PGA Tour?
He won once, was a runner-up four times and had 64 top 25s, earning more than $4 million in his career. Everybody can determine why Chamblee is pissed at Mickleson. chamblle won $4,000,000 in his career and 1 tournament (ha-ha-ha) can’t get in the HOF unless he buys a ticket? Hey Phil, buy chamblee a ticket so he can go see your accomplishments (me thinks the one embarrassing golf-is the one speaking out of his a**)

Chamblee is gone of his high horse and into nutso-sphere. You don’t cancel out of a Hall of Fame because you don’t like what the athlete does later. Especially, joining a competing tournament organization is not exactly child murder or drug running. Saudi might not be Ben Franklin or G. Washington, but sports raises people up to more civilized level.

Chamblee is incredibly bright with a sharp mind. Unfortunately, he is also in the pocket of the PGA Tour it would seem. These aren’t amateurs playing for the love of the game. They are professionals playing for money. The whole of Golf Channel (except maybe David Feherty – have yet to hear him make a disparaging remark about Phil) is lambasting all the players that have joined with LIV, and especially Phil. I’ve noticed that on air, even in the US Open broadcast, they seem to be taking pleasure at being able to call out Phil’s poor performance. Phil has done nothing to warrant Chamblee’s emotionally charged accusations. The PGA Tour isn’t a religion and doesn’t warrant the protection the media is giving it. It’s not a church filled with pious saints. It is a business with “not for profit” status and uses it quite well to pad the pockets of those involved with it. Lookup how much players on the Player’s Council are getting paid. I saw Streelman got $1.4M. Tell me again what they are doing to earn that? He castigates the players for taking Saudi money, yet the USA still imports 500,000+ barrels of Saudi oil a DAY. So I wonder…has Brandel stopped buying gas for his cars?
