Rickie Fowler’s patented laid-off backswing may be a thing of the past

Rickie Fowler has had the definition of a rollercoaster career. From being labeled overrated, to winning The Players Championship, to coming within a few shots of multiple majors, to a nearly four-year winless drought, he’s been through it all.

But through thick and thin, he stuck with the swing that got him to golf’s biggest stage — the patented laid-off backswing that any golf fan could recognize within seconds.

That move may be a thing of the past.

A video of Fowler’s new swing made its way through social media this week, and it looks like he’s been putting in some work. He’s no longer flat at the top, but in the perfect position. To be honest, it’s odd seeing Fowler produce such a textbook move.

After a tough 2021-22 season that included 22 starts, nine missed cuts, one top-10 finish and just one major championship appearance (T-24, PGA Championship), Fowler has finished T-6 at the Fortinet and T-2 at the Zozo already this season. His last start came at the CJ Cup in October.
