Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, Peyton Manning & Tom Brady set to tee it up

According to several sources, including the Action Network and CBS Sports, before the PGA Tour returns Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, Tom Brady and Peyton Manning will tee it up in a charity event with all donations and fundraising to benefit COVID-19 relief. The specifics surrounding the event remain unknown apart from the announcement that the four-golfer match will be aired live on TNT.

The matchup is believed to be Tiger and Peyton, who are both Nike spokesmen, against Phil and Brady. It will be called “The Match: Champions for Charity,” according to sources.

This is a follow-up to the $9 million match Mickelson and Woods played over Thanksgiving 2018 in Las Vegas (which Mickelson won after four playoff holes), although this one will be for a much more important cause.

Mid-to-late May is the expected date for the match, and it’s anticipated to take place somewhere in Florida. Regardless of when, where and how this whole thing is played, the attention on it is going to be insane and it could highlight how golf could be played while implementing safe social distancing measures.

While Manning and Brady are similar golfers in terms of their skill sets: Peyton has a 6.4 handicap, while TB12 has a 8.1 index. Mickelson and Woods played one another in head-to-head match in November of 2018 at the Shadow Creek Golf Course in Las Vegas, Nevada. Mickelson defeated Woods in what was a the first major U.S. sporting event that showed live betting odds on a national TV telecast. Mickelson won $9 million for his victory. It will be exciting to see how this next event turns out.
