Tiger Woods’ trophy haul by the age of just 11 is actually absurd

A few days ago, we highlighted the NIL deal between Sunday Golf and the six-year-old golf phenom, Patton Green.

As all golf juniors know, though, there is only one true golf phenom and Patton might have to go some to catch Tiger Woods’ record at a similarly young age.

In the ten years between 1999 and 2009, the undisputed number one won 73 times, winning 13 of his 15 majors during that period and gaining his status as one of the greatest athletes of all time, let alone just in golf.

And yet Tiger says he peaked when he was 11 years old.

At a Q&A session at the Tiger Woods Foundation Junior Invitational, the 46-year-old told the assembled junior golfers that, as a junior, he won so many trophies his mom had to give some away! (video below)

Tiger told his audience that, “When I was 11-years-old my life peaked. I got straight As. I got outstanding for effort and participation. I never got posted or in trouble during recess. I won 36 tournaments that summer. I went 36-0.”

The golfing legend explained further.

“By the time I had turned 12, when I was 11, my mom made me donate all my trophies because I had won 113. And I think I had the cutest girlfriend. So yes, life peaked at 11.”

36 years later, Tiger is attempting to recover from a serious leg injury, suffered in his near-fatal car crash in early 2021, but he played well with son Charlie at last week’s PNC Championship, and looks determined to make it back to the course.

Whether he can make it back to the form of the 2000s is in doubt, but there is no question he will never top 1986.
