DP World Tour pro Romain Langasque withdraws from The Open while on the signature Postage Stamp par-3 8th in the first round of The 152nd Open Championship at Royal Troon.
Langasque, 29, cited a back injury for his WD.
He becomes the second player to withdraw from The Open.
Sweden’s Sebastian Soderberg officially withdrew from the tournament on Wednesday.
The Frenchman opened with a bogey but then got it back with a birdie at the 2nd.
But the wheels then started to fall off with bogeys at the 4th, 5th and 7th.
The one-time DP World Tour winner then fatted his wedge shot on the short par-3 8th.
That ended up in the the fescue grass short of the green.
He then thinned his second shot from there.
While the ball was still in motion, Langasque took off his cap and shook hands with the officials and his playing partners CT Pan and Yuto Katsuragawa.
“He just hit it a wee bit fat,” Ryder Cup legend Sam Torrance said in the comms box while watching Langasque go about his chip shot on the 8th.
“Oooh, this one doesn’t look too good either. He’s kind of hitting it on the run now, he’s 3-over.”
John Morgan then said: “He does fly a bit hot under the collar.”
The decision to withdraw is a disappointing one for Langasque who was starting to build some momentum on Tour.
He arrived at Royal Troon off the back of an impressive solo third at the Genesis Scottish Open at The Renaissance Club last week.
Prior to that, he finished T9 at the BMW International Open in Germany.
As a result of those recent finishes, he had bumped himself up to 85th in the Official World Golf Rankings.
But he will fall back now after this week.
Langasque’s sole DP World Tour title came at the 2020 Wales Open at Celtic Manor.
He had qualified for The Open as a result of finishing in the top 30 on the Race to Dubai Rankings in 2024.
Langasque had been lining up in his fifth Open.
His best result at The Open is T33 (2023).
