Brian Campbell finds water three times on 16th hole before withdrawing from Valspar Championship.

Campbell withdrew during the second round of the Valspar Championship after suffering a neck injury on Friday.

The tournament is being played on the demanding Copperhead Course at Innisbrook Resort in Tampa, Florida.

Campbell, 33, opened with a 2-over 73 and began his second round on the 10th tee. However, his challenge to make the halfway cut unraveled quickly. After completing six holes, the American ran into serious trouble at the par-4 16th — his 7th hole of the day.

The Californian found water three times in a costly sequence and, facing what would have been his eighth shot on the hole, elected to withdraw.

Campbell later confirmed to the PGA Tour that neck pain was the reason behind his decision.

Following Campbell’s withdrawal, his playing partners — Cam Davis and Patrick Rodgers — continued the round as a two-ball.

Campbell’s exit adds to what has been a difficult start to the 2026 season.

The Newport Beach native began the year just outside the world’s top 70 but has since slipped to 99th, with further decline likely following his withdrawal this week.

In eight starts this season, Campbell has now recorded five missed cuts and one withdrawal.

His best finish of 2026 remains a tie for 54th at the WM Phoenix Open.

The dip in form comes after a breakthrough 2025 campaign, where he secured his maiden PGA Tour title at the Mexico Open before adding a second victory at the John Deere Classic just over four months later.
