PGA Tour pro SH Kim endured an incredibly unlucky and lucky break on holes 16 and 17 at the Stadium Course at PGA West during The American Express.
We have seen some crazy things in this game over the years that amount to complete and utter trainwrecks, but this from PGA Tour pro SH Kim might be one of the sickest sequences we have seen for quite some time.
When we talk about crazy things, I’m thinking of Jordan Spieth playing that cliff shot at Pebble Beach.
Perhaps Rickie Fowler surviving that calamity to win the 2019 WM Phoenix Open? Or Kevin Na making a 16 in Texas?
There are just so many to name.
But Kim’s unlucky and lucky breaks during The American Express will surely go down in the annals of history.
It will be a memorable moment for the 2023 and we’re not even in February yet!
So what happened?
If you’re an ardent PGA Tour fan you’ll know that hole 16 at PGA West’s Stadium Course is the home of one of the most treacherous bunkers.
It’s nicknamed the San Andreas bunker which is nearly 20 feet high. Yeah, you don’t want to go in that thing.
Kim took as many as four strokes to get out and had to draw a snowman on his scorecard.
But he really should’ve been licking his chops at a birdie opportunity.
This is truly unbelievable. There was more bad luck as his golf ball came to rest underneath the rake.
Initially, the PGA Tour social media team have decided not to show us 24-year-old trying to get out of the sand. Now we have the full video. (video below)
Kim dusted himself down and headed to the par-3 17th hole.
It’s kinda like the famed hole at TPC Sawgrass with an island green, albeit slightly bigger.
Kim’s tee shot clattered into a rock and sailed high into the air. Then it came to rest on the green. The crowd loved it.
He sank the putt to go 8-2 on 17 and 18!
Where does this moment rank in terms of crazy things we have seen in PGA Tour history?
It’s certainly up there in our view.
