New video footage has emerged on social media as to what the now famous Scottish fan John Burleigh did next when running onto the 16th green and jumping into the lake after Tommy Fleetwood clinched the Ryder Cup for Team Europe at Marco Simone on Sunday afternoon.
In case you missed out on the hilarious scenes that unfolded on 16 after Rickie Fowler conceded Fleetwood’s birdie putt to win the Ryder Cup, Burleigh broke through security to jump into the lake as the European fans celebrated victory. (video below)
Fleetwood ensured the half point required to get Europe over the line on the 16th.
That was enough to send Burleigh into a frenzy as he lost all of control of his senses.
Fleetwood went on to secure a full point in his match as Luke Donald’s team went on to defeat Zach Johnson’s side 16.5-11.5.
What did the golf fan do next?!
In a new video posted by a golf fan on Instagram from the grandstand, Burleigh, who has acquired the nicknames ‘KFC man’ and ‘Colonel Sanders’, was then urged to get back in the lake for a second time. (video below)
“One more time, one more time..” fans could be heard shouting as Burleigh trudged back across the green.
John thankfully did not disappoint as he ran back to the lake and dived back in to the delight of those watching on.
He then got back out the water and started a thunderclap with the European fans.
But you know what happened next…
John went back in.
It was his cleanest dive of the bunch, too.
The only downside for John was that he lost his glasses in the process.
John, who is currently on holiday with his wife in Italy following his new-found fame, told BBC Scotland News:
“The sun got to me and I was lost to delirium. The weather had been too hot but the banter and company had been fantastic.
“I had predicted it was going to finish at the 16th. The American conceded right in front of me and I just took off.
“I hadn’t planned it but I had said to a golf friend in Largs that it was so exciting that I could jump in the lake.
“And when we won it was so inviting I just shot off.”
John added:
“When I put my head in the lake I was looking for golf balls.
“I was hoping to come out with some but I didn’t see any.”
Italian police had a conversation with John after his antics, but he told BBC Scotland he did not get into any trouble with them.
In fact as John made his way back outside the ropes, he was greeted by hundreds of golf fans all wanting a selfie with him.
