Watch: Rory McIlroy, Tyrrell Hatton and Collin Morikawa try to land drive on 1-yard-wide fairway
It’s hard enough to hit a drive as straight as possible, but imagine sending a drive 300-plus yards while also trying to land it on a 1-yard-wide fairway.
Well, Rory McIlroy, Tyrrell Hatton and Collin Morikawa attempted to do just that in a contest from the DP World Tour. And three of the best golfers in the world learned quickly how difficult the challenge would be and strapped in for a long and wild ride.
In an epic opening Hero Challenge of the year, defending champion Hatton joined four-time major champion Rory McIlroy and the tour’s reigning No. 1 Morikawa for a star-studded spectacle on the drag strip at Yas Marina Circuit on Yas Island, Abu Dhabi.
What followed was an enthralling physical and psychological battle, as all three battled themselves, the elements and the slimmest of targets.
Despite the extreme difficulty of the challenge, each of the golfers, all winners on the PGA Tour, were becoming very frustrated as the day went on.
