Why Justin Thomas has drastically changed his diet

Last season, PGA Tour star Justin Thomas went through some health issues.

According to Golf Digest, “heat and health issues laid him low week after week”. One of those weeks was at the start of the PGA Championship at Southern Hills, where Thomas would go on to win his second career major.

The problem continued to linger after that, which “JT” spoke about during his pre-tournament press conference at this week’s Wells Fargo Championship.

“Mexico was really hot and I’m sure I had something there that messed with my stomach anyway,” he said, “but just super dehydrated and just felt off. And then again in Atlanta kind of to end the year, that Sunday when I got done, I got in the locker room and I just threw up everything I had eaten the entire day.”

The heat continued to bother him all year, which caused Thomas to meet with a doctor to figure out what was going on. The conclusion was for the 30-year-old to go gluten free for a year and dairy free for six months.

Thomas began the dietary changes three months ago and says he already feels better, but he’s really craving pizza.

“I want a pizza like you cannot imagine,” he said. “Like, I would do some really messed up things for a pizza just doused in ranch.”

The changes to Thomas’ diet have yet to translate to victories on the PGA Tour. It’s been just about a year since his last win, which is unusual for him, considering he’s won fifteen PGA Tour events in about eight seasons on Tour.

He’ll tee it up at Quail Hollow this week, which was the site of his first ever major championship victory back in 2017.
