‘World Rankings almost obsolete now’ – Cam Smith rips OWGR

LIV Golf have been denied ranking points, and LIV pros are, as expected, not best pleased.

Cam Smith is one of those players unhappy with the decision, and he has teed off in response to the news, calling the OWGR system “almost obsolete now.”

Speaking ahead of the LIV Golf Jeddah event, the 2022 Open Champ said:

“I think it [OWGR] is almost obsolete now. We’ve got some guys out here who are playing some of the best golf in the world and they’re outside the top 100, 200 in the world. It’s pretty ridiculous.”

The Aussie added:

“I feel like you can’t really use the world ranking system any more. Hard to use the world ranking system if you’re excluding 48 guys that are good players. The rankings are skewed.”

Fellow LIV pro Patrick Reed also expressed his disappointment at the decision, calling the OWGR’s a “broken system.”

“Obviously it’s disappointing. Until the actual world ranking reflects the actual top players in the world, then to me it’s just kind of a broken system… Just because we play on a different tour, it shouldn’t matter.”

Can and Patrick, The OWGR system includes and rate professional golfers from all over the world…………..so nothing is broken , the OWGR system uses a very specific set of criteria to qualify for the rankings and LIV doesn’t meet those qualifications. You made the decision join LIV and play in tournaments of 54 holes of no-cut golf against a limited field of 48 players, you made the decision to “take the money” and I don’t blame you but quit your whining and LIV with your decision.
