LIV Golf player on Phil Mickelson’s arse-kissing in Saudi Arabia: “Another level”
A LIV Golf player has explained Phil Mickelson’s behavior in Saudi Arabia.
By this point, you’re probably familiar with the comments Phil Mickelson made about LIV Golf’s financiers which led to his self-imposed exile from the game.
We are talking about his infamous ‘scary motherf—ers’ remarks where Lefty talked about his Saudi bosses and confirmed he was well aware of the Kingdon’s “horrible record on human rights” that included the murder and dismemberment of Washington Post reporter Jamal Khashoggi.
At the time, Mickelson insisted that essentially saying the quiet part loud was meant to be off-the-record.
The journalist that published the comments, Alan Shipnuck, vehemently disagreed.
As you can imagine, Mickelson wasn’t too pleased with Shipnuck, though he did admit what he said was reckless as he revealed his gambling had reached a point where it became ’embarrassing’.
Recently, Harold Varner appeared to confirm that Mickelson was still dabbling.
Shipnuck has now written an updated column teasing his new book.
He appears to believe that it was Mickelson’s team that instructed two LIV security goons to chuck the reporter out of the golfer’s press conference at LIV Golf’s inaugural event in London last June.

Mickelson’s initial remarks were so inflammatory and attracted so much attention that it reportedly almost did bring down the whole show before it even began.
Fast-forward to April 2023 and Mickelson believes LIV Golf is now on an unstoppable, upward trajectory.
However, it has to be said that he would have undoubtedly felt a touch of trepidation when he first set foot on Saudi soil since effectively admitting to being complicit in sportswashing.
That moment came last October for LIV Golf Jeddah.
A LIV player, speaking on the condition of anonymity, told Shipnuck that Mickelson’s bulls*** artistry was on another level.
The player said:
“If you think Phil is a bullshit artist normally, this was another level. You’ve never seen anyone kiss so much ass with that kind of enthusiasm and skill. He was ‘on’ from the second he got off the plane and never broke character. I’m pretty sure by the end of the week he could have been elected mayor of King Abdullah City, if they actually held elections over there.”

The anti-Saudi rhetoric and piling on Phil is “next level” hypocrisy by journalists who ignore the fact that on a business level everybody does business with the Saudis. Why not attack all the PGA Tour sponsors who do business with the Saudi’s? It’s because golf journalists would starve if the PGA Tour cut them off for not being lock step with Tour propaganda. Where is the outrage with the Tour developing a tour in China? Isn’t that sportswashing? China has killed many more Uighurs than Saudis have journalists.
