Take a look at the contingent of players from the breakaway LIV Golf League teeing it up at Shinnecock Hills this week.
Anticipation is slowly building for the third men’s major of the year.
The U.S. Open heads to famed Shinnecock Hills in Southampton, New York, for the first time since Brooks Koepka triumphed in 2018.
World number one Scottie Scheffler is the favourite to clinch the gold medal on Sunday and also complete the career grand slam on the first attempt.
The American, 29, will likely also face stiff competition from the likes of Masters champion Rory McIlroy, Cameron Young, Matthew Fitzpatrick, Xander Schauffele, Tommy Fleetwood, Justin Rose and several others inside the top 50 of the Official World Golf Ranking.
There is also a contingent of LIV Golf players who will believe they can win the U.S. Open this week.
In total, there are 13 players from the breakaway tour teeing up this week.
LIV’s charge will be led by two former U.S. Open winners, Jon Rahm and Bryson DeChambeau, whilst England’s Tyrrell Hatton is bang in form having triumphed in Spain earlier in the month.
Take a look at the LIV Golf players in the U.S. Open field and how they qualified.
Bryson DeChambeau
The 32-year-old American is exempt having won the U.S. Open in 2020 and 2024.
Jon Rahm
Like DeChambeau, Rahm also tasted success at the U.S. Open, winning at Torrey Pines in 2021.
Dustin Johnson
Former world number one Johnson is in the final year of the 10-year exemption he earned for his 2016 U.S. Open win at Oakmont.
Carlos Ortiz
The 35-year-old Mexican qualified by virtue of his top-five finish at the 2025 U.S. Open.
Tyrrell Hatton
Like Ortiz, England’s Tyrrell Hatton – who recently welcomed the birth of his first child – qualified for the 2026 U.S. Open after sharing fourth place 12 months ago.
Cameron Smith
The Aussie, who finally returned to form at the PGA Championship, is in the field because he won The Open between 2021-2025.
Smith had missed six major cuts in a row before he finally ended the streak at Aronimink Golf Club.
Laurie Canter
Canter qualified for the 2026 U.S. Open via his Race to Dubai ranking.
The USGA awarded two spots into the field to the leading two players, not otherwise exempt, as of 18 May.
David Puig
The USGA offers spots into the field to the top 60 players in the Official World Golf Ranking and ties as of 18 May.
Spain’s Puig snuck in at 58th in the OWGR.
Joaquin Niemann
Last February, the U.S. Open became the first major to provide players in the LIV Golf League with an exemption into the tournament based on rankings.
Niemann finished inside the top three in LIV Golf’s individual standings last season and secured his spot.
Lucas Herbert
And Australia’s Lucas Herbert grabbed the final one on offer when the cut-off period ended on 18 May.
Peter Uihlein
Came through Final Qualifying in Dallas.
Graeme McDowell
The former U.S. Open champion’s exemption into the major expired in 2023.
The Northern Irishman also came through the grueling 36-hole qualifier in Dallas.
Caleb Surratt
Like McDowell and Uihlein, Surratt teed up in the 36-hole qualifier in Dallas, but had to come through a six-man playoff to earn his spot.
