Patrick Reed actually just said this ahead of Asian Tour event

Patrick Reed told us he joined LIV Golf so he could play less events and spend more time with his family. Now he’s telling us he wants to travel more, and that it’s a “dream” to play on the Asian Tour.

Patrick Reed binned off his PGA Tour membership to join LIV Golf last month for a couple of reasons.

One was to pick up a huge pay packet from the Saudi-funded golf circuit, and two, was to play less golf so he could spend more time with his family.

“On top of it, just the quality of life for us as players now, having less events, being able to spend more time at home with the family,” Reed said at the time of his unveiling on the LIV Golf Invitational Series in June.

“If you have kids, being able to spend time with your children, and not sitting there and having to play three, four weeks in a row, then have a week off, and during that week off you’re preparing, trying to get ready for the next week.”

Fast forward to this week where Reed, 32, is playing in back-to-back LIV Golf-backed International Series tournaments on the Asian Tour in Singapore and South Korea, and he suddenly wants to play more golf around the world.

Oh, and he also said he wants to “grow the game” and that it’s always been a “dream” of his to play on the Asian Tour.

Course it has, Patrick.

“World ranking points always help, but at the end of the day, for me, coming over here, I’d heard great things about this place,” Reed said today ahead of the International Series Singapore.

“And coming in, I knew I wanted to play a little bit after the last event we played in Bedminster, and it fit the schedule.

“For me, it’s more about travelling and playing golf and trying to grow the game around the world – and not just staying at home and playing at home. I have always loved traveling and playing, so to play an event like this is a dream for me.”

Reed has slipped to 46th in the OWGR since he resigned his PGA Tour membership earlier this summer.

The fact of the matter is that Reed is playing in Singapore and South Korea this week to pick up OWGR points.

He can say whatever he wants about growing his bank balance the game of golf, but we all know the reason and that is because LIV Golf remains point-less in more ways than one.

Moving forward next season, it will be part of LIV Golf player contracts to compete in as many LIV Golf-backed Asian Tour events as possible.

OWGR announced some new changes to their system this week, but that has not gone down well with many LIV Golf players, or DP World Tour players for that matter.

Both tournaments have a prize fund of $1.5 million, with the winner taking home $270,000 – some way short of the $4 million on offer for winning a LIV Golf tournament.

After competing in back-to-back Asian Tour events this month, Reed will then compete in the next LIV Golf Boston tournament in early September.

Reed is confident that other LIV Golf players such as Dustin Johnson and Bryson DeChambeau will follow suit and play in LIV-backed Asian Tour events soon.

“I definitely think a lot more guys will come over and start playing Asian Tour events,” added Reed.

“I know personally, from talking to guys about trying to grow the game around the world, the only way to do that is by travelling and playing different tours and events, like the International Series.

“To grow the game of golf, just like any business, the only way you can become successful is to spend money to make money. And to help out and grow the purses of the International Series, that is going to bring money not only to those events but the Asian Tour and allow them to sustain and grow larger and larger.

“At the end of the day if the guys go and have fun and enjoy themselves, they are going to come back and play more events.”

The most hated golfer on the PGA tour and a confirmed cheater and now a confirmed liar… What a shock…

Well if that is true, doesn’t that explain why he defected to the LIV tour? Yes, even David Feherty is calling b.s. on the growing the game canard. But as for Reed and guys like Kevin Na and Bryson D, it is easy to see why they left for greener pastures, pun intended.

Bottom line: It’s about the money, lots of money. Then only 3 rounds. Team money. No cut. What’s no to like?

You say the Saudi’s money is tainted? How about all the PGA Tour sponsors that spend big bucks in Saudi Arabia?
