Tour golfer WDs from India event over ‘visa issues’ at airport

DP World Tour golfer Ewen Ferguson has revealed “very annoying” issues with his visa have forced him to withdraw from this week’s tournament in India.

A plethora of European Ryder Cup stars have assembled in Delhi for the inaugural DP World India Championship.

Rory McIlroy, Shane Lowry, Viktor Hovland, Tommy Fleetwood and Europe’s winning captain, Luke Donald, are in the field.

Ferguson would have loved to have joined them but the 29-year-old Scot has revealed on his personal Instagram account he was forced to withdraw from the $4m tournament.

“Some visa issues at the airport this morning forcing me to w/d from India, very annoying,” he wrote.

“But a week off to reset might not be a bad thing.”

Ferguson still has an awful lot to play for this season.

Currently ranked 41st in the Race to Dubai Rankings, Ferguson is almost guaranteed a start in the first leg of the DP World Tour’s play-offs in Abu Dhabi.

Only the top 70 players in the standings will have a tee time at the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship. The top 50 players will then advance to the season-ending DP World Tour Championship.

The aforementioned McIlroy is in pole position to secure the season-long title for the fourth season in a row and seventh overall.

Unsurprisingly, Luke Donald was asked whether he had decided to lead the European Ryder Cup team in 2027.

It is understood Donald has been given a period of time to decide whether he wants to lead the blue and gold for a third time when the matches head to Adare Manor in Ireland.

Only Bernard Gallacher has served three terms as European captain.

Donald said he was still digesting want happened at Bethpage Black last month when he was pressed for an answer.
